| The process of Restoring or Repairing Vintage or Contemporary Photographs has now greatly surpassed the techniques of yesterday, and makes it possible to preserve the original photo in its present state, without permanently affecting it with chemicals and paint or dyes. The first step in the process is to have your original photograph scanned into a digital file that can be loaded onto your computer. This keeps your irreplaceable photo preserved safely in your possession. Is it Safe to Scan my Vintage Photos?Short Answer: Yes. It is true that prolonged and repeated exposure to the type of bright light that is inherent to the scanning process can be damaging, but the exposure must be, like I said, prolonged and repeated. It would take hundreds or perpaps thousands of scans to create any noticeable fading. What if I don't have a Scanner? If you don't happen to have a high quality scanner, or access to one at work or school perhaps, you can always go to the local printing shop and they will be happy to do it for you, for a small fee of course. Once your digitally scanned photo lives on your computer, it is a very simple process to use our software to Upload a Copy of it to us. Just follow the instructions on the 'Upload' page and you'll do fine. What should my Expectations Be?
Every photo, regardless of damage, can at least be improved in some way, and most can be completely restored to their original state, back when it was first developed, whether that was 10 years or 100 years ago. In the case where your original is extensively faded, blurred, or damaged to the point of an almost unrecognizable image, we can still improve it. We just have to be realistic in such cases however.
Sepia is a natural process that occurs over tiime, and some people like it's effect, giving the photo that 'vintage' feel. After we have fully repaired your photo, we also offer a sepia 'version' of the finished restoration, besides the black and white version. What if my Original Photo is Torn, or has Writing on it?
Short Answer: it is usually not a problem. Even if the photo is torn 'apart', as long as you have all the pieces (or at least 90% of them) it is still workable. Please however, do NOT tape the pieces together, this does not help us. If they're already taped together, do not attempt to remove the tape. Try to assemble the torn pieces as best you can on the scanner bed, and we'll do the best we can with what we've got. A little writing is usually not a problem either. Just upload what you've got, but don't try to erase the writing first. The Beauty of working with RJ-Summers.com
